Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization educating and mobilizing Americans for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. Moms Demand volunteers believe that we can support the Second Amendment while doing so much more to encourage responsible gun ownership and to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people. Founded by MU alum Shannon Watts the day after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Moms Demand Action now has almost 10 million supporters nationally, and local groups in Missouri cities and towns in every corner of the state, from St. Louis to Kansas City to Joplin to Cape Girardeau—as well as here in Columbia. The moms, dads, students, and concerned members of Moms Demand Action know that gun violence is preventable, and are committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.
